Bono & Ditta S.p.A., based in Campobello di Mazara (TP), is a historic company that firmly embraces innovation and sustainability.
Operating in an area of over 60,000 square meters, the company is internationally recognized for producing musts, grape juices, and concentrates intended for multiple sectors: from winemaking to balsamic vinegars, as well as the food and baby food industries.
With over 60 years of experience, Bono & Ditta has developed cutting-edge technologies to preserve the natural properties of grapes and enhance the processing of by-products, from which they extract polyphenols — antioxidant compounds highly sought after in the cosmetic and nutraceutical sectors.
The challenge
In the energy-intensive agri-food sector, monitoring is essential not only for ensuring product quality, but also for reducing consumption and supporting sustainability strategies throughout the supply chain.
Focused on continuous improvement and ESG principles, Bono & Ditta has decided to implement an energy monitoring system that enables real-time energy consumption tracking. This system allows for the collection of detailed data on energy usage and targeted interventions to optimize production processes.
The project
At their production facility, we have integrated our EDEA system, a customized application for:
- Monitoring production concerning the sugars produced.
- Monitoring the process connected to producing the steam required for various plant utilities.
- Real-time energy monitoring of water, gas, and power consumption. For the latter in particular, supply was planned based on actual production needs and the availability of renewable sources. The system transforms consumption into Tons of Oil Equivalent (TEP), providing an accurate value of total energy cost as well as per kilogram of product.
Our solution
We integrated our Energy SW system that monitors and displays the following key information:
- Real-time performance of energy carriers, sugars produced, steam, and water — all correlated to TOE
- Monthly consumption for the carriers
- Data comparison between the previous and current years
- Reports, downloadable as PDF and Excel formats
- User logs, with information accessible at various corporate levels and managed through customized screens
Thanks to implementing EDEA, the company has improved productivity, achieving tangible benefits such as greater production flexibility, enhanced efficiency, and better process integration.
Quality has increased due to simplified human-machine interaction, while the focus on operational and environmental sustainability has been strengthened, accompanied by an innovation-driven approach centered on adopting new technologies and services.
